Apple Restores Telegram App After Brief App Store Removal

Apple briefly removed the Telegram messaging app from its App Store after a review identified content that breached its guidelines prohibiting child sexual abuse material.

The company said it restored the app after the developer acted quickly to address the issue. According to Apple, the developer removed the offending content and banned the user who had posted it. As a result, the app returned to the App Store shortly after the review process concluded.

    Apple Explains Temporary Removal

Apple said the temporary removal followed a review that found content violating its App Store guidelines. The company specifically referred to its rules prohibiting child sexual abuse material. Consequently, the app was taken down while the matter was addressed.

Apple stated that the action was not permanent. Instead, it restored Telegram once the developer had removed the content in question and blocked the account responsible for posting it. Therefore, the app became available again after the required steps had been completed.

    Telegram Responds on Social Media

Telegram responded to the reports through a post on X. The company wrote: “Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated.”

However, Telegram did not provide any further explanation regarding the temporary removal. In addition, it did not respond to a request for comment seeking more details about the incident.

    Requests for Further Comment

An Apple spokesperson did not respond to a request for additional comment about the specific App Store guidelines violation. Likewise, Telegram did not respond to a request for comment beyond its post on X.

The information provided by Apple indicated that the review process identified content that breached its policies. Furthermore, the company said the developer acted promptly by removing the content and banning the user responsible. Following those actions, Apple restored the Telegram app to the App Store.

The companies did not offer any further public details about the review or the content involved. As a result, Apple’s statement remains the primary explanation for the app’s brief removal and subsequent restoration. Meanwhile, Telegram’s public response was limited to its short post on X, and neither company expanded on the matter after requests for additional comment.
