Dubai Resort Street Creates Artificial Rain In Climate-Controlled Setting

Visitors to a resort street in Dubai danced beneath transparent umbrellas on Thursday as artificial rain fell around them, offering relief from the emirate’s intense summer heat.

Live music accompanied the experience on the one-kilometre boulevard, known as Raining Street. The climate-controlled attraction runs through the Cote d’Azur resort on Europe Island, part of Kleindienst Group’s Heart of Europe development off Dubai’s coast.

Raining Street Offers Cooler Outdoor Experience

Raining Street has been designed to let visitors enjoy an outdoor environment throughout the year, despite Dubai’s extreme summer temperatures.

Managing partner Parisa Seif told Reuters that the street is maintained at a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, or 80.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Dubai’s temperature, meanwhile, reached 47 degrees Celsius, or 116.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

“The Raining Street, the temperature is 27 degrees (80.6 Fahrenheit) while Dubai’s temperature is 47 degrees (116.6 Fahrenheit),” Seif said.

The attraction combines controlled temperatures with artificial rainfall to create conditions that differ sharply from Dubai’s usual summer climate.

Artificial Rain Creates European Atmosphere

Visitors could be seen dancing beneath the artificial rain while an entertainer performed live music.

Awtar Al Marrakshi said rainfall was rare in Dubai and that seeing rain fall around her made her feel delighted.

“It’s amazing. I feel happy. When I see rain coming down, I feel just happy. I just go and play down the rain.”

Another visitor, Dalia, said the experience felt similar to walking through a European street.

The street itself was modelled on European architecture. As a result, the combination of buildings, cooler temperatures and artificial rain is intended to create an atmosphere inspired by European destinations.

Climate Technology Powers Raining Street

The rainfall system uses German-engineered climate technology, according to the Kleindienst Group website.

The system allows visitors to experience rainfall throughout the year while remaining inside the climate-controlled environment.

Raining Street forms part of the Cote d’Azur resort on Europe Island, which itself is part of the Heart of Europe development located off the coast of Dubai.

The attraction provides visitors with a way to experience rain and cooler outdoor conditions during Dubai’s hot summer months, when temperatures can rise significantly above the controlled conditions maintained on the boulevard.
