The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has completed the geo-technical investigation and topography survey for its Third Launch Pad, following financial approval on March 21, 2025. The organisation has now begun preparing and floating tenders for key components of the project, with two tenders already issued.
Civil Works Underway
Civil construction is currently focused on approach roads and the provision of temporary power supply. Major upcoming milestones include establishing the propellant storage and servicing systems, realising the mobile launch pedestal, installing lightning protection towers, laying rail tracks to the vehicle integration buildings, and constructing the Jet Deflection Duct. The planned date of completion (PDC) is set for March 2029.
Tendering and Industry Participation
The Ministry of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh, confirmed in a Rajya Sabha written reply that private industries and MSMEs are expected to participate in the tendering process for the Third Launch Pad. All tenders will be floated and executed following existing Department of Space procurement mechanisms, with a preference for Make-in-India initiatives.
Future Outlook
With the geo-technical and topographical groundwork complete, ISRO is now advancing the critical infrastructure required for its new launch pad, signalling a significant step forward in India’s space programme expansion. The inclusion of private industry in tendering reflects the government’s push to integrate domestic manufacturing capabilities into strategic space projects.
