North Korea Condemns US Golden Dome Missile Shield Plan
North Korea has strongly criticised the US Golden Dome missile defence project, calling it a serious threat to global stability. The comments were reported by North Korea’s state media on Tuesday.
North Korea Labels Project a Global Danger
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s foreign ministry has denounced the Golden Dome plan as a “very dangerous threatening initiative”. The remarks came shortly after US President Donald Trump announced the selection of a design for the missile shield on 20 May. He also named a leader for the ambitious $175 billion programme.
A statement from the Institute for American Studies within North Korea’s foreign ministry described the plan as a product of the “America First” policy. It criticised the project as arrogant and dismissive of international norms. The statement further labelled the system as a “nuclear war scenario in outer space”.
Golden Dome to Use Satellite Network
The Golden Dome system is designed to detect and destroy enemy missiles shortly after launch. It will use a network of satellites equipped with advanced sensors and interceptors. These satellites will monitor missile threats from countries including China, Iran, North Korea and Russia.
The goal is to intercept missiles early, before they can reach their targets. The project represents one of the most expansive US missile defence efforts to date.
China Also Voices Concerns
China has also expressed alarm over the US missile defence initiative. Last week, Beijing stated it was “seriously concerned” about the Golden Dome project. The Chinese government urged Washington to halt its development, warning it could trigger a new arms race and threaten international security.
As tensions rise, the Golden Dome initiative is expected to remain a major point of contention in global diplomacy.
