India’s First 240V Electric Motorcycle Platform Gets TDB-DST Backing

India is moving ahead in electric mobility with the development of the country’s first 240-volt electric motorcycle platform. This pioneering project, supported by the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), marks a major step in building indigenous electric vehicle (EV) technology.

The project is being carried out by Chennai-based startup M/s Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd. With this innovation, the company aims to bring high-voltage benefits—already used in electric cars—into the two-wheeler segment for the first time in India.

    High-Voltage Technology for Faster Charging

The 240-volt DC system will allow the motorcycle to charge faster and operate more efficiently. It is also fully compatible with India’s growing network of public charging stations. These features are expected to encourage quicker EV adoption by addressing two common concerns: charging time and infrastructure support.

To support the platform, Raptee Energy has developed a specialised battery pack that is ARAI-certified. This ensures safety, performance, and reliability for users.

Built In-House with Indigenous R&D Capabilities

Raptee Energy’s R&D team has over six years of experience and is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). They have built core competencies to design, develop, and validate key motorcycle components. These include electronic systems, mechanical parts, and embedded software.

The high-voltage motorcycle also includes smart features such as remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates. The company has focused on sustainable manufacturing by ensuring zero waste and no external emissions.

    Aligned with National Goals

This project supports India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission by developing homegrown EV technologies. It also contributes to global sustainability goals, including SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak highlighted the significance of this development:
“High-voltage technology in electric two-wheelers opens new possibilities for faster EV adoption in India’s vast market. TDB’s support will help strengthen local R&D and speed up domestic innovation.”

Dinesh Arjun, CEO of Raptee Energy, added:
“This support from TDB validates our R&D journey and helps us scale up our high-voltage platform. We are proud to develop future-ready mobility solutions that position India as a global EV leader.”
