CrowdStrike to Acquire Identity Security Startup SGNL for $740 Million Amid Rise in AI Threats
CrowdStrike Holdings announced plans to acquire identity security startup SGNL in a $740 million deal as part of its strategy to strengthen defences against artificial intelligence-driven cyber threats. The purchase, expected to close in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, will be paid mainly in cash, with part of the amount in stock subject to vesting conditions.
Strengthening AI-Era Cyber Defences
The acquisition will allow CrowdStrike to integrate SGNL’s “continuous identity” technology into its Falcon cybersecurity platform. The system enables constant real-time verification of user, machine, and AI identities, helping to prevent hackers from exploiting credentials as entry points for data theft.
CrowdStrike Chief Executive George Kurtz said the addition of SGNL would give the company a comprehensive “identity fabric” to address evolving cyber risks. “Adversaries aren’t breaking in; they’re logging in and abusing identity,” Kurtz told Reuters. He added that the deal aligns with CrowdStrike’s broader effort to tackle threats emerging from the rapid deployment of autonomous AI agents within enterprises.
Expanding CrowdStrike’s Identity Business
CrowdStrike first entered the identity security space in 2020 with the acquisition of Preempt Security. Since then, its identity division has become a key growth driver, generating more than $435 million in annual recurring revenue as of the second quarter of fiscal 2026.
Founded in 2021 by Scott Kriz and Erik Gustavson, SGNL provides a platform designed to manage access across human, machine and AI identities. The technology operates across both cloud and on-premise systems, offering continuous validation instead of one-time authentication.
Kurtz said that all SGNL employees would join CrowdStrike, noting, “We’re buying a team and technology. We want the great people that come with it.” The integration process for existing Falcon users is expected to be straightforward once the acquisition closes.
Leveraging AI for Faster Response
CrowdStrike has been increasingly using artificial intelligence to automate its security operations, deploying autonomous agents that can reduce complex threat detection and mitigation tasks from days to hours. The acquisition of SGNL fits into this broader strategy to enhance the company’s AI-driven cybersecurity ecosystem.
With cyberattacks growing more sophisticated, particularly through compromised digital identities and automated AI tools, the deal positions CrowdStrike to offer a more resilient, identity-centric defence platform.
