India will host an international workshop focused on 6G standardisation as part of efforts to strengthen its role in global telecom development. The Telecommunication Engineering Centre, the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications, will organise the event on 18 March 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Focus on Bharat 6G vision
The workshop aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the Bharat 6G Vision. It aims to position India as a leading contributor to the design, development and deployment of 6G technologies by 2030.
Moreover, the initiative seeks to strengthen domestic innovation while enhancing India’s presence in global telecom standardisation efforts. As countries accelerate work on next generation networks, India intends to play a more active role in shaping future standards.
Participation from global stakeholders
The event will bring together experts from government, industry, academia and international standardisation bodies. These participants will discuss the evolving global roadmap for sixth generation telecommunications technologies.
Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will deliver the inaugural address. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar will present a special address.
Senior officials, industry leaders and researchers are also expected to attend. Their discussions will focus on strengthening India’s engagement in global standards development processes.
Key themes and technical discussions
The workshop will feature technical sessions and expert discussions covering several critical areas. These include the global roadmap for 6G standardisation and the evolution of network architecture for next generation communication systems.
In addition, participants will examine spectrum planning for future mobile networks and the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into telecom infrastructure. Security frameworks and trust mechanisms will also form a key part of the discussions.
Furthermore, the agenda includes developments in radio access network technologies and emerging 6G use cases. India’s roadmap towards 2030 for next generation communications will also be reviewed.
Strengthening India’s global role
The workshop comes as international discussions on IMT 2030 and future mobile systems gain momentum. Therefore, it offers a platform to review global developments and identify opportunities for India to contribute more actively.
By focusing on innovation and collaboration, the initiative aims to reinforce India’s position in shaping the future architecture of global telecommunications.
Role of Telecommunication Engineering Centre
The Telecommunication Engineering Centre plays a central role in India’s telecom ecosystem. It develops technical standards, specifications and conformity requirements for telecom equipment and networks.
Additionally, it ensures interoperability and quality while aligning with global best practices. The organisation also represents India in international forums such as ITU T and ITU R and coordinates national working groups for global standardisation activities.
