Aadhaar App Crosses 21 Million Downloads in Three Months
Unique Identification Authority of India said the new Aadhaar App has recorded strong public adoption, crossing 21 million downloads within three months of launch.
The application is increasingly being used by residents to access Aadhaar-related services, including mobile number and address updates, directly from their smartphones.
Millions Use Aadhaar App for Updates
According to data released by the government, more than 2.8 million people have updated their mobile numbers using the Aadhaar App. In addition, nearly 600,000 users have updated their addresses through the platform.
The government said the app is helping bring Aadhaar services directly to users while reducing the need for physical visits and paperwork.
The Aadhaar App is designed as a next-generation mobile platform that allows Aadhaar Number Holders to securely carry, display, share and verify their identity in a privacy-focused manner.
Focus on Privacy and Consent-Based Sharing
The application promotes paperless identity verification while giving users greater control over consent and selective information sharing.
Among its key features are face verification for proof of presence, biometric lock and unlock functions, authentication history tracking and QR-based editable contact cards that can replace physical visiting cards.
The government said the app has been developed with a privacy-first approach aimed at making identity verification safer and more user-friendly.
Aadhaar App Expands Everyday Use Cases
The Aadhaar App supports a range of practical applications across sectors. These include hotel check-ins through Offline Verification Seeking Entity QR code scanning, hospital admissions, visitor management systems and event entry verification.
The platform also supports age-gating functions and identity verification for gig workers and service partners.
Officials said the growing adoption of the Aadhaar App reflects increasing public trust in digital identity services and contributes to improving ease of living for Aadhaar users across India.
