Ministry of Mines Prepares Special Campaign 5.0 with Strong Focus on E-Waste Management

The Ministry of Mines is set to launch Special Campaign 5.0, placing a strong emphasis on the safe and responsible disposal of e-waste. This initiative aligns with the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022 issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

The upcoming campaign builds on the achievements of Special Campaign 4.0, which ran from 2 October to 31 October 2024. During that period, the Ministry carried out 376 activities nationwide, clearing 165,119 sq. ft. of office space and generating revenue of over ₹1.1 crore through systematic scrap disposal.

Sustainability was the guiding theme of the campaign, reflected in notable projects. These included the inauguration of a rooftop solar plant at the Geological Survey of India Training Institute in Hyderabad, a waste-to-art sculpture created from 1.6 tonnes of aluminium scrap at Rani Laxmi Bai Udyan Public Park, the installation of 1,000 KWP solar panels at MCP & ICC Unit in Madhya Pradesh, and the development of an innovative composting machine at MECL Nagpur.

    Expanding Impact Through Continuous Efforts

Between November 2024 and August 2025, the Ministry and its field offices continued to strengthen efficiency. They cleared 1,080,590 sq. ft. of office space, removed outdated records, and generated revenue of ₹11.05 crore. In addition, 2,172 files were weeded out and 938 public grievances resolved, ensuring better record management and improved public service delivery.

    Roadmap for Special Campaign 5.0

The Preparatory Phase of Special Campaign 5.0, scheduled from 15 to 30 September 2025, will focus on identifying targets in pending matters, including those from the PMO, VIP references, state governments, and parliamentary queries. It will also highlight opportunities to optimise record and office space management.

The Implementation Phase, from 2 to 31 October 2025, will prioritise the disposal of e-waste. Attached and subordinate offices, CPSEs, autonomous bodies, and other stakeholders will take part, ensuring a collective effort toward sustainability.

Through these initiatives, the Ministry of Mines is reinforcing its commitment to responsible governance, sustainable development, and public welfare. By focusing on e-waste, the Ministry aims to set an example in managing environmental challenges while improving administrative processes.
