ISRO Transfers 70 Technologies to Industry Through NSIL Agreements

The Department of Space (DoS) has announced that NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO, has signed 70 Technology Transfer Agreements (TTAs) with Indian industries to transfer space technologies developed by the organisation. The update, shared via the Press Information Bureau on 10 December 2025, underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to promote private-sector participation and innovation in India’s growing space economy.

    Strengthening Industry Collaboration

Technology transfers from ISRO to non-governmental entities (NGEs) and private industries are governed by formal Technology Transfer Agreements (TTAs) and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). These legal instruments include strict confidentiality clauses to protect proprietary and commercially sensitive information.

According to the Department of Space, NSIL serves as the licensor of ISRO technologies, while the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) acts as a facilitator for enabling access by private players. The transferred technologies span multiple domains, including satellite systems, launch vehicle components, materials engineering, and space applications for communication and remote sensing.

    Transparency and Oversight Mechanisms

NSIL has emphasised its commitment to transparency and compliance with the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. In accordance with Section 4 of the Act, details of technology transfers — including guidelines, available technologies, and procedural information — are published on the official NSIL website.

An independent Technology Transfer Committee reviews each transfer request to ensure fairness and accountability. The company maintains that these mechanisms uphold integrity and transparency in all transactions, even those protected by NDAs.

Certain details, such as specific contractual terms, payment structures, and copies of agreements, are exempt from public disclosure under Section 8(1)(d) of the RTI Act, as they contain information deemed commercially sensitive or strategically significant.

    Public Access to Information

Information about the recipient industries and transferred technologies is periodically made available through official channels, including the websites of ISRO, DoS, the U R Rao Satellite Centre, IN-SPACe, and NSIL. Some data is also released through media publications and responses to RTI requests.

By enabling technology transfer to private enterprises, ISRO and NSIL aim to strengthen India’s domestic space manufacturing ecosystem, foster innovation, and accelerate the commercialisation of indigenous technologies for both space and non-space applications.
