Prego has introduced a unique device designed to keep smartphones away from the dinner table while still preserving family interactions. The limited-edition product, called the Connection Keeper, focuses on capturing mealtime conversations without relying on screens or constant connectivity.
Developed in partnership with a nonprofit organisation dedicated to recording everyday conversations, the device aims to encourage more meaningful engagement during meals. Its design resembles a small puck and takes inspiration from the familiar shape of a pasta sauce lid, allowing it to sit unobtrusively at the centre of the table.
Simple Design Encourages Natural Interaction
The Connection Keeper operates with a straightforward approach. Users simply press a button on the top of the device to begin recording. Unlike many modern gadgets, it does not include a screen or internet connectivity, which helps minimise distractions during conversations.
Instead, the device stores recordings locally on a 16GB microSD card. This capacity allows for up to eight hours of audio, making it suitable for multiple family meals. A USB-C port enables users to charge the device and transfer recordings when needed.
