Leaders Explore Deeper Collaboration in Semiconductor Supply Chains
PM Modi, alongside Japanese Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Shigeru Ishiba, visited Sendai in Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture on 30 August 2025. The visit included a tour of Tokyo Electron Miyagi Ltd (TEL Miyagi), a key player in Japan’s semiconductor industry. During the tour, both leaders received a detailed briefing on TEL’s global role in semiconductor manufacturing and its collaborations with India.
The factory tour offered insight into the advanced technologies and manufacturing capabilities of TEL. It also underscored the growing opportunities for collaboration between India and Japan in semiconductor supply chains, fabrication, and testing.
Strengthening India-Japan Semiconductor Cooperation
The visit highlighted the synergy between India’s emerging semiconductor ecosystem and Japan’s technological expertise in the sector. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to working together, building on existing partnerships such as the Japan–India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership and the India–Japan Industrial Competitiveness Partnership.
This cooperation also forms part of broader discussions under the Economic Security Dialogue. These initiatives aim to develop a secure, resilient, and dependable semiconductor supply chain that benefits both nations.
A Shared Vision for Strategic Technology Growth
The joint visit by the two Prime Ministers reflected a shared strategic vision to strengthen bilateral relations through technological collaboration. Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Ishiba for his participation and reaffirmed India’s readiness to deepen ties in the semiconductor domain.
Following the factory tour, Prime Minister Ishiba hosted a lunch in Sendai in honour of Prime Minister Modi. The event was attended by the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture and other dignitaries, marking a warm conclusion to a productive visit.
