ChatGPT Suffers Global Outage, Users Face Access Issues

ChatGPT experienced an unexpected outage on Tuesday, 10 June, leaving users worldwide unable to access the AI platform through its website or app. The disruption triggered widespread complaints, particularly on social media.

Users Report Network Errors During Downtime

Between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm IST, over 860 reports were logged on Downdetector, indicating that users were encountering problems accessing the service. Many received a “Network error occurred” message when trying to interact with the chatbot.

The incident sparked a wave of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), where users shared screenshots and expressed frustration. Some joked that the AI was “taking a nap,” while others reflected on how dependent they had become on ChatGPT for even simple tasks.

It remains unclear whether the outage affected all regions or only specific locations.

    Recurring Disruptions in 2025

This latest incident adds to a series of service disruptions ChatGPT has faced in 2025. In January, a major global outage affected millions, generating widespread “Bad Gateway” errors. In March, two separate issues impacted prompt generation and increased error rates across several models.

Earlier this year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted that ChatGPT’s servers were under intense strain. He noted that high demand was “heating up” the systems. OpenAI also highlighted how even polite prompts—those that include phrases like “please” and “thank you”—still contribute to system load.

Service Restored But No Official Response Yet

By 3:45 pm IST, reports on Downdetector began to decrease, indicating that the issue was being resolved. Complaints on social platforms also started to fade soon after.

As of now, OpenAI has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage.
