China’s Smart Consumer Device Industry Sees Rapid Growth in 2025

China smart device manufacturing sector is experiencing strong growth in 2025, supported by a government-led trade-in scheme and increasing demand across diversified consumer markets.

From January to May, the electronic information manufacturing industry reported steady expansion. Companies above the designated size achieved total revenues of 6.49 trillion yuan (around 900 billion US dollars), representing a 9.4% increase compared to the same period last year.

    Rising Output of Consumer Electronics

Production of electronic consumer goods has shown consistent growth this year. More than 140 million computers were produced between January and May, marking an 8% rise from the previous year. Television production also increased, with over 14 million units produced—a year-on-year growth of 1.7%.

Zuo Kairui, director of the Industry Development Department at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, noted that consumption patterns are evolving. He highlighted that new smart products are entering the market rapidly, creating new demand in areas like home services and health management.

Zuo also pointed out that the supply side of the industry is undergoing transformation. The focus is shifting toward innovation and upgrading, with new technologies driving the sector forward.

Focus on AI and Green Development in H2 2025

Looking ahead to the second half of the year, China plans to further promote its “AI plus consumer goods” strategy. This initiative aims to encourage development in technologies such as smart wearables, ultra-high-definition video, brain-computer interfaces, and robotics.

Authorities also intend to focus on expanding fast-growing consumer sectors. Efforts will guide the industry toward greener practices and more service-oriented development, ensuring long-term sustainability and market resilience.
