Nvidia Confirms Massive Investment In OpenAI Amid $100 Billion Talks

Nvidia CEO Confirms Major Investment Into OpenAI

Nvidia plans to make a “huge” investment in OpenAI, likely the largest in the company’s history, CEO Jensen Huang said on Saturday, dismissing reports that he was unhappy with the artificial intelligence developer.

The chipmaker first announced in September that it intended to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI. The deal would provide the company with funding and access to advanced chips crucial for maintaining its lead in a competitive AI landscape. Reports from the Wall Street Journal suggested the plan had stalled due to internal doubts at Nvidia.

    Huang Denies Concerns

Huang told reporters in Taipei that claims of his dissatisfaction with OpenAI were “nonsense.” He praised OpenAI as “one of the most consequential companies of our time” and highlighted his respect for its CEO, Sam Altman. “We are going to make a huge investment in OpenAI. I believe in OpenAI, the work that they do is incredible, and I really love working with Sam,” he said.

Huang clarified that the original $100 billion figure was non-binding and had not been finalised. He added that it would be up to Altman to determine how much funding OpenAI seeks in the current round. “Sam is closing the round and we will absolutely be involved. We will invest a great deal of money, probably the largest investment we’ve ever made,” Huang said. When asked if the figure would exceed $100 billion, he responded, “No, no, nothing like that.”

    OpenAI Funding And Industry Interest

OpenAI is aiming to raise up to $100 billion in its latest funding round, which would value the company at approximately $830 billion, according to Reuters. Amazon is also reportedly in talks to invest tens of billions, with figures potentially reaching $50 billion.

Huang’s remarks came after hosting Nvidia’s key suppliers in Taiwan, including TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker. Taiwanese media referred to the gathering as the “trillion-dollar dinner,” reflecting the combined market capitalisation of the attendees. The event underscored Nvidia’s central role in the global semiconductor and AI ecosystem.

Huang also acknowledged private concerns he had expressed about OpenAI’s business discipline and the competitive pressures it faces from rivals such as Google and Anthropic. Despite these considerations, he emphasised that Nvidia remains fully committed to supporting OpenAI’s growth.
