CORLEO: A Futuristic Leap in Personal Mobility

Kawasaki Robotics has revealed a bold vision for the future — a ride-on robotic lion named CORLEO. This concept robot, powered by hydrogen, blends animal-like agility with high-tech mobility. Kawasaki believes this innovation could become reality by 2050.

CORLEO is not just a robot; it is an all-terrain personal transport machine. It uses a hydrogen-powered electric generator to drive motors placed in each of its legs. The unique design enables it to walk, run and jump across various terrains.

    Combining Technology and Animal Motion

The rider steers CORLEO by shifting their weight, using both foot placement and handlebars. This system offers a riding experience that merges the feel of a motorcycle, a horse and a Segway.

Unlike wheeled vehicles, CORLEO’s four legs move independently. This helps absorb shocks and provides balance over uneven ground. It can even maintain the rider’s comfort when going uphill, thanks to its flexible leg motion.

Yusuke Amatatsu, Production Manager for Kawasaki Heavy Industries Expo 2025, explained that this stability allows users to explore tough terrains, including mountains, where traditional vehicles cannot reach.

Designed for Rugged Terrain and Night Travel

Each leg ends with a rubber hoof, designed to grip surfaces like grass, rocks and rubble. This feature gives CORLEO the ability to adapt to a wide range of outdoor environments.

For added functionality, an instrument panel shows key stats such as hydrogen levels, the planned route, and the robot’s centre of gravity. At night, the robot projects guiding markers onto the ground, lighting the path ahead and ensuring safer travel.

With such innovative features, CORLEO points to an exciting future where personal mobility is redefined by robotics and clean energy.
