Hong Kong Launches AI+ Strategy To Drive Industrial Transformation
Hong Kong will establish a dedicated committee on AI+ and industry development strategy to accelerate industrial transformation through artificial intelligence, Chief Executive John Lee announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at the first Hong Kong embodied AI industry summit, Lee said the initiative will initially focus on life and health technology as well as embodied intelligence, reflecting the city’s ambition to strengthen its position in emerging technology sectors.
Hong Kong Targets AI-Led Industrial Growth
Lee said the new committee will formulate strategies aimed at using artificial intelligence to support industrial upgrading and foster what he described as “new quality productive forces”.
He highlighted the growing importance of embodied AI, which combines artificial intelligence with physical systems such as robots capable of interacting with the real world. According to Lee, these technologies could play a major role in modernising industries and improving productivity.
Moreover, he encouraged companies to establish operations in Hong Kong to benefit from the city’s advantages and support technological advancement.
“Hong Kong welcomes enterprises to set up operations here to leverage the city’s strengths and accelerate technological upgrading,” Lee said during the summit.
Embodied AI Takes Centre Stage At Summit
The event also showcased developments in humanoid robotics and embodied intelligence technologies.
At the exhibition area, a full-sized humanoid robot attracted attention by dancing smoothly to music and interacting naturally with people. The robot is a flagship product launched this year by AgiBot and is designed to behave similarly to a human companion.
The demonstration highlighted how embodied AI is moving beyond research environments into more practical and interactive applications. Industry experts believe such technologies could eventually support sectors ranging from healthcare and manufacturing to hospitality and elderly care.
Hong Kong Seeks Stronger Position In AI Sector
Hong Kong authorities have increasingly emphasised innovation and technology as key drivers of long-term economic growth. The latest AI+ strategy signals a broader effort to attract technology companies, investment and research talent to the city.
In particular, the focus on life and health technology aligns with Hong Kong’s existing strengths in medical research and international finance. Meanwhile, embodied intelligence represents a rapidly developing field with growing commercial potential.
The summit reflected wider global interest in artificial intelligence and robotics as governments and businesses compete to secure leadership in next-generation technologies.
