Shanghai’s First AI Incubation Hub Boosts Thriving Industry
Shanghai’s AI incubation hub has emerged as a key driver for the city’s rapidly expanding AI sector. In 2024, Shanghai’s AI industry surpassed 450 billion yuan (approximately 62 billion U.S. dollars), highlighting its significant growth.
Mosu: A Collaborative AI Ecosystem
Since its launch in September 2023, the AI hub, known as Mosu (Model Speed Space), has attracted 250 companies specializing in computing power, data, and AI application development. This unique environment fosters close collaboration, with businesses in the same building often forming upstream and downstream partnerships.
“We can quickly understand the needs and directional adjustments of upstream partners. It also allows us to stay updated on the latest technological trends and demands,” said Lu Changlu, a company leader based in Mosu.
Strong Support for AI Startups
Mosu not only encourages industry collaboration but also provides tailored support for AI startups through a range of policies and services.
“Beyond rent subsidies, we provide computing power subsidies, filing subsidies, and talent policy support. We also offer guidance on regulatory filings. Essentially, we identify the pain points of enterprises and provide solutions based on their needs,” explained Yang Jingjing, president of Shanghai Large Model Ecological Development, the hub’s operator.
Shanghai’s Growing AI Influence
The success of Shanghai’s AI incubation hub reflects Shanghai’s broader AI ambitions. In 2024, the city’s AI sector expanded by over 7.8 percent. Additionally, 60 large AI models received approval from the Cyberspace Administration of China through a rigorous regulatory process that ensures compliance with national standards.
With continued investment and innovation, Shanghai is positioning itself as a leading global hub for AI development.
