CATL Naxtra to enter production by year-end China’s CATL, one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers, has announced the launch of its new sodium-ion battery brand, Naxtra. The company said production would begin in December 2025. It also introduced the second generation of its fast-charging battery technology designed for electric vehicles (EVs). CATL, which first introduced sodium-ion battery technology in 2021, is the first major battery maker to do so. Sodium, unlike lithium, is widely available and more affordable. It also poses a lower fire risk, making it a safer option for EVs and energy storage. The Naxtra battery will…

Unique discovery challenges assumptions about planetary orbits and binary systems In a remarkable astronomical finding, scientists have identified a planet that defies many of the norms associated with planetary systems. Located just 120 light-years away in our Milky Way galaxy, the planet orbits not one or two stars, but a pair of brown dwarfs — celestial objects that are too massive to be considered planets yet not massive enough to sustain nuclear fusion like true stars. This discovery marks the first time a planet has been confirmed orbiting two brown dwarfs, making it one of the rarest exoplanets known to…

Elon Musk’s Defence Alliance Seeks Role in Satellite-Based Shield SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, has emerged as a leading contender for a critical part of former President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defence shield. According to six sources familiar with the matter, SpaceX has teamed up with software firm Palantir and drone manufacturer Anduril to develop essential components of the initiative. The plan centres around launching hundreds of satellites capable of detecting and tracking missile threats, alongside a separate fleet of attack satellites designed to neutralise them using missiles or laser systems. SpaceX’s role would be limited to the…

Possible Signs of Alien Life Detected on Distant Exoplanet Scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope have found compelling evidence that could hint at alien life beyond our solar system. The discovery involves the detection of gases typically linked to biological activity on Earth, found in the atmosphere of a distant planet named K2-18 b. Unusual Gases Suggest Possible Microbial Activity Researchers identified two specific gases — dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) — in the planet’s atmosphere. On Earth, these gases are produced by marine microorganisms, particularly phytoplankton. Their presence on K2-18 b may suggest microbial life could…

A Milestone in Deep-Space Exploration China has created the world’s first three-satellite network based on Distant Retrograde Orbit (DRO) in the Earth-moon region. This major step strengthens China’s future in space science and crewed deep-space missions. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) developed DRO-A and DRO-B, which are now connected to DRO-L, a satellite launched earlier. These satellites form a stable communication network in orbit, which was announced during a symposium in Beijing. DRO is a rare orbit that loops around Earth in a forward path and the moon in a backward path. It sits within the Earth-moon space zone,…

Climate Crisis Deepens as CO2 Hits Record High and Global Warming Accelerates Concentrations of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere reached a record 422 parts per million in 2024, according to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). This climate crisis comes after another year of unprecedented global temperatures, intensifying calls for stronger climate action. Scientists Warn 1.5°C Threshold May Already Be Breached New research suggests the world may have already surpassed the critical 1.5°C warming limit compared to pre-industrial levels. This figure is considered a tipping point beyond which extreme and irreversible climate impacts could become inevitable. The study,…
