    The New Geopolitics of Capital: Why India Matters More Than Ever

    Anil PadmanabhanBy Anil PadmanabhanJuly 30, 2026 Capital Calculus No Comments2 Mins Read

    Did you know that in the first of this year, sovereign wealth funds from the Gulf region invested 1.7 billion dollars into India?

    Did you know that this accounts for 50% of the total investments by all sovereign wealth funds into India in the same period?

    Separately, a recent survey of sovereign wealth fund managers undertaken by Bain, reveals that 80% of these funds are targeting investments in Asia, excluding China.

    And this is despite the ongoing turmoil in West Asia.

    To unpack this paradox, StratNewsGlobal.Tech spoke to Soumya Bhowmick, Fellow, Observer Research Foundation.

    The conversation explored why Gulf capital is becoming more strategic, why India is emerging as a trusted investment destination, and how concepts like trust, shared vulnerabilities, and strategic partnerships are reshaping global capital flows.

    If you want to understand the future of sovereign wealth, India’s growing strategic importance, and the new geopolitics of capital, this conversation is for you.

    Key Topics

    – Why Gulf sovereign wealth funds are increasing investments in India;
    – How geopolitics is reshaping global capital;
    – Trust as an economic asset;
    – Shared vulnerabilities versus shared ideology;
    – India’s infrastructure financing challenge;
    – NIIF, patient capital and institutional reforms;
    – Why Asia—and especially India—is attracting sovereign capital.
