Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of India’s leading global technology firms, has inaugurated a new AI-powered operations center in Mexico City. This marks a major milestone in its expansion across Latin America and reinforcing the deepening tech partnership between India and Mexico.
The new facility is poised to create more than 5,000 high-skilled jobs over the next two years in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, cybersecurity, IoT, data analytics, and digital infrastructure. This investment, part of TCS’s long-term vision for the region, signals a strong commitment to nurturing Mexico’s innovation ecosystem while positioning the country as a strategic tech hub.
“This new office is not just a physical expansion, it’s a strategic move to strengthen Mexico’s digital landscape and TCS’s role as a catalyst for inclusive growth,” Rajeev Gupta, Head-Nearshore LATAM and Country Head of TCS Mexico, told StratNewsGlobal in an exclusive interaction.
Strengthening Mexico’s Role in the Digital Economy
TCS has operated in Mexico for over two decades, and this latest expansion reaffirms its role as the largest Indian multinational in the country. The company aims to continue collaborating closely with government authorities, educational institutions, and business communities to build a more competitive and resilient digital economy.
“This initiative is designed to foster high-quality job creation, empower local talent, and build long-term partnerships across industries,” Gupta added. “We see Mexico not just as a market, but as a fundamental pillar of our growth strategy in Latin America.”
The Mexico City facility is projected as a center of excellence for AI and emerging technologies, delivering end-to-end services including application development, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and cognitive business operations. It will serve both local and international clients, offering customized solutions to meet the evolving demands of the global digital economy.
India-Mexico Ties: A Strategic Shift
The TCS expansion comes at a time of growing diplomatic and economic convergence between India and Mexico. Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Mexican President Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada—their first bilateral meeting.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of areas for enhanced cooperation, including start-ups, trade, investment, science and technology, the automotive sector, AI, quantum computing, and digital infrastructure. Notably, President Sheinbaum expressed admiration for India’s digital progress and welcomed deeper collaboration, especially in the context of near-shoring opportunities.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the potential for joint initiatives in cutting-edge fields such as semiconductors, AI, critical minerals, and quantum technologies, highlighting India’s desire to position itself as a reliable partner in Mexico’s transformation into an innovation-driven economy.
TCS’s new AI center effectively supports these goals, offering a real-world example of how Indian investment is contributing to Mexico’s positioning as a technology and innovation hub.
A Long-Term Vision Rooted in Innovation
According to Gupta, TCS’s vision for Mexico goes well beyond immediate economic impact. “We are focused on creating lasting value for clients, investors, employees, and the broader community,” he said. “Our strength lies in our ability to deploy and scale new technologies quickly while helping enterprises become perpetually adaptable.”
He noted that many of TCS’s global client relationships have spanned multiple decades and technological eras, from mainframe computing in the 1970s to today’s AI-driven solutions. That adaptability is now being brought to bear in Latin America, with Mexico at the center of this next wave of innovation and digital transformation.
Gupta also pointed out that the company’s experience working across global markets gives it a unique ability to shape the future of digital infrastructure in the region, while offering clients real-time solutions for complex business challenges.
Creating an Innovation Ecosystem
Echoing remarks made by Mexican Minister of Economy Marcelo Ebrard, Gupta stated that the new TCS center is designed to function as a regional engine of innovation. It will integrate global best practices with local expertise, support sustainable digital transformation, and expand career opportunities in emerging tech fields.
“This facility is not just about technology, it’s about empowerment,” he said. “By investing in talent and capabilities, we’re building a foundation for Mexico to lead in digital innovation, not just follow.”
As India and Mexico chart a new course in bilateral relations, driven by shared priorities in technology, sustainability, and inclusive growth, TCS’s expansion into AI and next-gen services in Mexico City is both timely and strategic.
