The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) have established a Centre of Excellence called DIA-CoE to collaborate on seven technology projects related to the defence sector. The centre was inaugurated at the Technology Research Park in IITH on Sunday by DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat in the presence of IIT-H Director Prof. B.S. Murty and Director of DIA-CoE, Shri G. Ramaguru.

The seven verticals of technology projects undertaken at DIA-CoE include ultra-high temperature materials, additive manufacturing, space technologies, AI for defence, image processing, seekers and homing technologies, and nano-ornithocopter technologies. The centre will focus on making India a global leader in these verticals.

Murty stated that the centre was a significant step towards achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) in the defence sector. He expressed his satisfaction that the CoE would be led by Shri Ramaguru, who has extensive experience managing strategic projects and expressed optimism about the IIT-H faculty working with DRDO to achieve their goals.

Speaking next, Kamat praised the IIT-H for its cutting-edge research and expressed his belief that DRDO and IIT-H would work together to identify target projects in each domain and execute them within 3-5 years. He also noted that DIA CoE at IIT-H was the largest centre among all 15 DIA-CoEs and had many verticals.
