Sierra Space valuation rises as Sierra Space Series C funding reaches $8 billion

    Sierra Space Series C

Sierra Space secured fresh funding that values the company at 8 billion dollars. The company announced on Thursday that it raised 550 million dollars in a Series C funding round. Investors are increasingly backing defence and space technology firms as geopolitical tensions rise and demand grows for commercial space infrastructure.

The new capital arrives as interest strengthens in companies with government contracts and proven manufacturing capacity. At the same time, investors are closely watching the expected initial public offering of SpaceX. That potential listing could reshape competition across the commercial space sector.

Sierra Space raises major funding round

Sierra Space said the Series C round raised 550 million dollars and placed the company’s valuation at 8 billion dollars. LuminArx Capital Management led the funding round. Meanwhile, several existing investors also participated in the financing.

General Atlantic, Coatue, Moore Strategic Ventures and Andalusian Private Capital joined the latest investment round. Their continued backing highlights confidence in Sierra Space’s role in defence and space infrastructure.

Earlier, the company raised 290 million dollars in a Series B funding round in 2023. At that time, the investment valued Sierra Space at 5.3 billion dollars. Therefore, the latest funding shows a strong rise in the company’s valuation within two years.

Expansion plans focus on defence and intelligence

Sierra Space plans to use the fresh capital to expand its production capacity. In addition, the company intends to accelerate the development of defence and intelligence solutions.

The Louisville, Colorado based firm aims to position itself as a key supplier to United States national security customers. It builds satellites, space transportation systems and other defence technologies. Because of that strategy, the company has attracted strong interest from investors focused on national security capabilities.

Chief executive Dan Jablonsky said the company will prioritise national security as it expands operations. He said Sierra Space aims to deliver reliability, performance and disciplined execution for both government and commercial partners.

Growing demand for space based defence assets

Space based systems now play a larger role in defence operations. Governments increasingly rely on satellites for intelligence gathering, secure communications and real time data. As a result, companies that can supply space infrastructure are attracting significant investment.

Sierra Space has already secured major government contracts. The company won a 450 million dollar award to build more than four satellites for a national security customer. It also secured a contract from the Space Development Agency that could reach a potential value of up to 740 million dollars.

Beyond satellite development, Sierra Space continues to advance its reusable Dream Chaser spaceplane. The vehicle is designed to transport cargo and eventually crew to low Earth orbit. The company completed several key manufacturing milestones in 2025. It now plans to conduct a demonstration flight in late 2026.
