Launch Postponed Due to Technical Concerns
SpaceX postponed its eighth Starship test flight on Monday due to an unspecified issue in the rocket system’s core. The delay pushes the company’s attempt to deploy mock Starlink satellites in space by at least 24 hours.
The test mission would have marked the first Starship launch since the January flight, which ended abruptly when the rocket exploded over the Caribbean eight minutes after liftoff. That incident scattered fiery debris over the Turks and Caicos Islands and led to a federal investigation.
SpaceX Countdown Halted Just Before Liftoff
The postponement, known as a “scrub,” occurred when the countdown was paused 40 seconds before launch. SpaceX employees needed to investigate a potential issue with the rocket, according to the company’s live stream.
SpaceX spokesman Dan Huot stated that the company might attempt another launch on Tuesday, depending on the outcome of their assessment.
Elon Musk Advocates Caution
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk addressed the situation on his social media platform X, expressing concerns about the mission. “Too many question marks about this flight,” he posted. “Best to destack, inspect both stages and try again in a day or two.”
The Starship program remains central to SpaceX’s long-term goals, including Mars exploration and deep-space missions. The company will now focus on resolving the technical issues before making another launch attempt.
