According to the Prime Minister, the proposal represents one of the largest planned investments within India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem. As digital services continue to expand across industries, large-scale investments in data centres are expected to play a critical role in supporting growing demand for cloud computing capabilities and artificial intelligence technologies.

Major Investment In Data Centre Capacity

The Prime Minister noted that AirTrunk’s proposed investment will contribute significantly to the expansion of India’s digital infrastructure. The planned development of 5 GW of data centre capacity reflects the increasing importance of digital facilities that support modern technology services.

Moreover, the scale of the proposed investment underlines confidence in India’s digital growth trajectory. As organisations increasingly rely on cloud-based services and AI-driven applications, the need for advanced infrastructure continues to rise. Consequently, investments of this nature are viewed as important enablers of future technological development.

    Strengthening India’s Global Technology Position

Shri Narendra Modi emphasised that such investments will reinforce India’s standing as a global hub for cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, expanding digital infrastructure can help support the technological requirements of businesses operating both within India and across international markets.

The Prime Minister highlighted that India’s digital ecosystem continues to evolve rapidly. As a result, large infrastructure projects are expected to contribute to the country’s broader ambitions in emerging technology sectors. In addition, enhanced data centre capacity can provide the foundation required for innovation and digital transformation initiatives.

    Employment, Supply Chains And Innovation

Alongside technological benefits, the proposed investment is expected to create employment opportunities and support local supply chains. The Prime Minister stated that investments in digital infrastructure can generate economic activity across multiple sectors while encouraging innovation-led growth.

Furthermore, the development of large-scale digital facilities can create opportunities for businesses that contribute to infrastructure development and operational support. At the same time, innovation within cloud computing and AI-related industries may receive additional momentum through expanded infrastructure capabilities.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated that India’s digital infrastructure journey is gathering remarkable momentum and described the proposed AirTrunk investment as one of the largest of its kind in the country. He further remarked that such initiatives would strengthen India’s role in cloud computing and AI while creating jobs, supporting supply chains, and accelerating innovation-driven growth.

The Prime Minister added that the future of the global digital economy is increasingly being shaped in India.
