Government Regains Control After Security Breach

The official YouTube channel of Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves was restored on Friday evening, following a cyber attack that disrupted the account for several hours earlier that day. The breach raised concerns over digital security within government communication platforms.

    Experts from Multiple Sectors Collaborate

A statement from the president’s office confirmed that experts from several departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology and Google, worked jointly to regain access and secure the account. Although the platform is now back under government control, no further information was given about the source of the attack.

The statement did not clarify whether any sensitive information had been accessed or compromised during the incident. Despite the limited details, officials reassured the public that the recovery process was handled efficiently and promptly.

    Cryptocurrency Content Was Not Government-Approved

Earlier on Friday, the YouTube profile of the Costa Rican President had displayed a new logo that included the word “Strategy” alongside a bitcoin symbol. This unfamiliar branding raised suspicions, especially as the channel had started featuring cryptocurrency-related videos.

The presidential office quickly addressed these concerns, stating that the uploaded content had not come from them. Authorities confirmed that the government had no involvement with the cryptocurrency material and that it appeared as part of the unauthorised access.

With the channel now secured, officials are expected to continue their investigation into the nature and origin of the cyber attack.
