UK to Buy $10 Billion Worth of Boeing Aircraft, Says US Official

The UK is set to purchase $10 billion in Boeing aircraft, according to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. He made the announcement at the White House on Thursday, during a broader unveiling of a bilateral trade deal between the UK and the United States. However, key details of the purchase remain unclear.

Details of the Aircraft Deal Still Uncertain

Lutnick stated that the purchase is being made by a private-sector airline, but did not name the company involved. He added that the airline itself would reveal further information in due time.

The White House presented a visual summary of the deal, which mentioned $10 billion in “aircraft parts” purchases. It did not specify whether this figure referred to full aircraft, spare parts, or a mix of both.

There was also no confirmation on the type of aircraft being bought, nor whether the deal included confirmed orders or just purchase options. Boeing has not yet commented on the announcement.

Major Airlines Yet to Confirm Involvement

Virgin Atlantic, which flies Boeing aircraft, confirmed it is not part of the deal. British Airways, known for operating a range of Boeing widebody aircraft, has not yet responded to the news.

Despite the uncertainty, the announcement had a positive impact on Boeing’s share price. The company’s stock rose by approximately 3.1% during midday trading following the news.

As more information is expected to be released by the involved airline, the scale and nature of the deal remain subjects of speculation.
