Sriram Krishnan Appointed as Senior White House AI Policy Advisor

US President-elect Donald Trump has named Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as the Senior Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. Announced on Sunday, December 22, 2024, this appointment is part of Trump’s broader strategy to bolster US leadership in AI.

Krishnan, a Chennai-born tech expert with a background in leading product teams at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook, and Snap, will work closely with David O. Sacks, who has been named White House AI and Crypto Czar.

    A Vision for AI Leadership

Trump highlighted Krishnan’s extensive experience in technology, noting his role as a founding member of Microsoft’s Windows Azure. “Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in AI and help shape and coordinate AI policy across government,” said Trump. Krishnan will also collaborate with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology to align AI initiatives across federal agencies.

Krishnan expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “I’m honoured to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI working closely with David Sacks.”

    Broad Support for Krishnan’s Role

The Indian-American community has welcomed Krishnan’s appointment. Sanjeev Joshipura, executive director of Indiaspora, praised Krishnan’s expertise. “For several years, Sriram has been an insightful thinker in the AI space. His blend of public policy, international affairs, investing, and technology will serve the nation well,” said Joshipura.

Indiaspora has pledged to support Krishnan in his role, recognising its alignment with their work on advancing AI in the US and globally.

Building the Future of AI Policy

Krishnan’s appointment marks a significant step in the Trump administration’s efforts to prioritise artificial intelligence as a cornerstone of national strategy. By leveraging his background in both technology and policy, Krishnan will play a key role in positioning the US as a global leader in AI innovation and governance.
