Trump Signals Possible Reversal Of Anthropic Ban

U.S. President Donald Trump indicated on Tuesday that Anthropic is regaining favour within his administration, suggesting the artificial intelligence company could soon see its Pentagon blacklisting reversed. His remarks followed recent discussions between company leadership and White House officials.

Earlier this year, in February, Trump instructed government agencies to halt collaboration with Anthropic. Subsequently, the Pentagon labelled the firm a supply chain risk. This decision significantly affected the company, especially after disagreements emerged over safeguards governing military use of its artificial intelligence systems.

    Dispute Over Security Classification

However, Anthropic strongly contested the Pentagon’s classification. In March, the company escalated the dispute by filing a lawsuit against the Defence Department. It argued that the designation was unjustified and damaging to its operations.

Meanwhile, efforts to repair relations gained momentum. Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei met with White House officials last week in an attempt to ease tensions. According to the administration, the meeting proved both productive and constructive.

Trump acknowledged these developments during an interview, noting that discussions had progressed positively. He stated that the company appeared to be improving its standing and described its leadership as highly capable. Furthermore, he expressed optimism about future cooperation, emphasising the administration’s preference for working with top talent.

    Potential Pentagon Collaboration

When questioned about a possible agreement with the Pentagon, Trump suggested that such an outcome remained plausible. He reiterated the government’s intention to engage with the most capable individuals and organisations in the field.

In response, Anthropic referred to its earlier statement, which highlighted shared priorities discussed during the White House meeting. These included cybersecurity, maintaining the United States’ leadership in artificial intelligence, and ensuring AI safety.

    Focus On Advanced AI Development

At the same time, the company’s technological advancements have drawn attention. Recently, Anthropic introduced Mythos, its most advanced AI system to date. Experts have noted its significant capability in identifying cybersecurity vulnerabilities and devising methods to exploit them.

Despite its potential, Anthropic has chosen not to release Claude Mythos Preview for general use. Instead, it launched Project Glasswing. Through this initiative, the company invited major technology firms, cybersecurity providers, and financial institutions to privately assess the system. The aim is to strengthen defences before any broader deployment.

Additionally, Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark confirmed that discussions regarding Mythos have taken place with the Trump administration. However, he did not disclose further details.
