Anthropic Signs Chip Supply Deals With Samsung and SK Hynix

Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei said on Friday that the artificial intelligence company has signed supply agreements with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. He made the announcement during an AI forum hosted by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung but did not disclose additional details about the agreements.

The announcement comes as demand for advanced AI infrastructure continues to grow. Consequently, major AI developers are strengthening relationships with semiconductor manufacturers to secure the computing resources needed for increasingly powerful models.

    Supply Partnerships Support AI Growth

In May, Anthropic raised funding at a post-money valuation of $965 billion. At the time, the company identified Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron as key partners, stating that their technologies play a critical role in supplying memory, storage and logic chips required for AI development.

These partnerships highlight the importance of reliable chip supplies as AI companies expand their computing capacity. Memory, storage and processing components remain essential for training and deploying large-scale AI models.

    Chip Development Speculation Continues

During the forum, SK Group Chairman Chey said Anthropic was developing its own “computing power” but did not provide further explanation. His comments may refer to a Reuters report that said the AI company is exploring the possibility of designing its own chips.

However, Anthropic did not confirm the reported plans. A company spokesperson said there were no updates to share and added that the startup continues to explore different options while using a range of chips to maintain a diversified computing strategy.

Amodei also declined to comment on the reported chip development plans during the event.

    Rising Demand Drives Infrastructure Investment

Demand for Anthropic’s AI model, Claude, has accelerated throughout 2026. As a result, the company faces increasing pressure to secure sufficient computing resources to support future growth.

If the reported chip design initiative moves forward, it would reflect the broader effort across the AI industry to address ongoing semiconductor shortages. Companies developing advanced AI systems continue to seek greater control over their hardware supply chains as demand for high-performance chips rises.
