Apple Settles Siri AI Upgrade Lawsuit for $250 Million
Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a consumer class action lawsuit linked to delays in artificial-intelligence upgrades for its Siri voice assistant.
The lawsuit, filed in 2024 by Peter Landsheft in a US federal court in California, centred on the company’s promotion of new AI-powered Siri features during its annual developer conference that year. Apple had advertised the upgrades as part of a broader push into generative AI under its Apple Intelligence platform.
Delayed Siri Features Trigger Legal Action
Apple announced several AI enhancements for Siri during its 2024 developer conference and promoted the tools heavily in marketing campaigns tied to the launch of new iPhones later that year. However, the devices arrived without the promised features.
As a result, plaintiffs argued that consumers and shareholders suffered harm because Apple promoted capabilities that were not available at launch. The complaint claimed the delay affected purchasing decisions and investor expectations.
In 2025, Apple acknowledged that the AI overhaul for Siri would be postponed until 2026. Company executives have since confirmed that the upgraded Siri features will be introduced at Apple’s annual developer conference next month.
Apple Denies Wrongdoing
Although Apple agreed to the settlement, the company did not admit liability or wrongdoing. The agreement still requires approval from a judge before becoming final.
In a statement, Apple said it had already introduced several other artificial-intelligence tools since launching Apple Intelligence in 2024. The company added that the settlement would allow it to remain focused on product development and innovation.
“Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features,” the company said. “We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.”
Focus Remains on Apple Intelligence
Apple continues to position Apple Intelligence as a central part of its software strategy. The delayed Siri overhaul is expected to play a major role in the company’s next generation of AI services and user experiences.
Meanwhile, industry attention remains fixed on Apple’s ability to compete with rivals that have moved aggressively into generative AI products and voice-assistant technology.
