India Writing New Chapters in AI, Semiconductors and Space, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India’s youth are driving the country’s transformation into a global technology and innovation hub, highlighting progress in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor manufacturing, space technology and deep tech.

Speaking after inaugurating the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) in Mysuru, Karnataka, the Prime Minister credited young entrepreneurs and innovators with strengthening India’s position in advanced technologies and the digital economy.

The newly inaugurated centre commemorates Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Mysuru in 1892 and aims to promote value-based education, leadership and personality development among young people.

“Digital solutions made in India are today inspiring many countries. India is rapidly moving forward on a new journey of semiconductor manufacturing and is writing new chapters in AI, deep tech, space technology and innovation,” Modi said.

    Youth Driving India’s Technology Growth

Modi said India’s youth have played a central role in making the country the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer and the third-largest startup ecosystem.

He also highlighted the growing contribution of young entrepreneurs to the private space sector. Referring to a recently launched privately developed rocket, the Prime Minister said the achievement demonstrated the capability and ambition of India’s young innovators.

Furthermore, he said young people are powering the country’s digital economy by building startups, creating employment through Mudra loans and supporting flagship initiatives such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Education Reforms to Prepare Future Workforce

The Prime Minister stressed that India’s demographic dividend can be fully realised only by providing young people with quality education, greater opportunities and the confidence to pursue their ambitions.

He said the country has significantly expanded its higher education infrastructure over the past 12 years. According to Modi, more than 650 universities, nearly 14,000 colleges and over 4,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have been established during this period.

In addition, the government has set up nine Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and 13 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He added that the number of MBBS seats has increased to nearly 1.4 lakh.

Modi also said the National Education Policy (NEP) is aligning India’s education system with the needs of the 21st century. He highlighted the establishment of more than 14,000 PM Shri schools and over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs to encourage innovation, creativity and scientific thinking among students.

Moreover, reforms allowing engineering and medical education in Indian languages, along with opening military schools and the National Defence Academy to women, have expanded educational and career opportunities, he said.

    Sports Strengthening India’s Youth

The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of sports in nation-building. He said initiatives such as the Khelo India Youth Games, University Games, Para Games and Winter Games are helping identify sporting talent from villages and smaller towns while strengthening India’s sporting ecosystem.

According to Modi, participation in sports builds discipline, confidence and good health among young people. He added that India’s performances in international competitions continue to improve, with athletes setting new records and women sportspersons bringing recognition to the country on the global stage.

The Prime Minister said the achievements of India’s youth across technology, education, entrepreneurship and sports reflect the country’s growing confidence and its ambition to become a global leader in innovation and development.
