Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai, where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address outlining China’s vision for artificial intelligence and international AI governance.
The conference will be held from 17 to 20 July in Shanghai, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.
The annual event is one of China’s flagship technology gatherings, bringing together government officials, technology companies, researchers and industry leaders to discuss advances in artificial intelligence and the future of global AI governance.
Xi’s participation highlights Beijing’s continued push to position China as a global leader in AI innovation while promoting its approach to international rules and standards governing the rapidly evolving technology.
The conference comes as competition in artificial intelligence continues to intensify globally, with China and the United States investing heavily in advanced AI models, semiconductor technologies and next-generation computing capabilities.
This year’s event is expected to focus on AI innovation, industrial applications, international cooperation and the development of global governance frameworks for artificial intelligence.
