The Technology Development Board under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has entered into an agreement with Casey Aviation Private Limited, Gurugram, for a project titled Boost Electric Jump Take Off. The Board has approved a conditional grant under the India–UK Collaborative Research and Development Programme for Industrial Sustainability, undertaken in partnership with a United Kingdom based aerospace collaborator.

    Focus On Hybrid Propulsion Innovation

The project centres on the development of an advanced hybrid propulsion based Jump Take Off system. This system aims to improve the operational performance of unmanned and light aircraft platforms. In addition, the initiative includes plans to establish a dedicated test bench facility for validating rotorcraft propulsion systems. This facility will play a vital role in testing and refining emerging aerial mobility technologies.

Moreover, the proposed solution integrates hybrid propulsion methods to enable short or near vertical take off capabilities. These capabilities are particularly suited for platforms such as gyrocopters and unmanned aerial systems. As a result, the system is expected to reduce take off distances while enhancing operational flexibility across multiple use cases.

    Applications Across Critical Sectors

The technology is expected to support a wide range of applications. These include regional connectivity, disaster response, medical evacuation, unmanned logistics, and surveillance operations. Furthermore, it holds particular relevance for remote and inaccessible regions where conventional aviation infrastructure remains limited.

At the same time, the project seeks to establish one of the first propulsion testing facilities of its kind in North India. This infrastructure will offer validated testing support for startups and developers working in unmanned and advanced aerial mobility systems. Consequently, it will strengthen the broader innovation ecosystem by enabling testing services and encouraging commercial adoption of hybrid propulsion technologies.

    Industry Collaboration And Strategic Impact

Casey Aviation Private Limited, a newly established aerospace venture, focuses on designing small aircraft and specialised aviation solutions. The company combines expertise from industry, academia, and research institutions to address evolving requirements within India’s aviation and unmanned systems sector.

Officials emphasised that international collaborative research programmes play a crucial role in advancing strategic technologies. They noted that innovations in hybrid propulsion and advanced take off systems can significantly enhance capabilities in unmanned aviation and regional air mobility. Additionally, such developments contribute to more sustainable and efficient aviation solutions.

The company’s promoters acknowledged the support and stated that the project will allow real world validation of their technology. They further indicated that it will accelerate the development of scalable propulsion systems tailored for emerging aviation applications.
