South Korea Boosts KF 21 Programme With New Defence Investment

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has announced plans to invest in advanced aircraft technologies to strengthen national defence. He made the statement during an event marking the first delivery of the domestically developed KF 21 fighter jet.

    Focus On Domestic Aerospace Development

Lee said South Korea will quickly begin developing key components for its high tech aircraft sector. These include engines, specialised parts, and essential raw materials. Moreover, the move aims to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers while strengthening domestic capabilities.

At the same time, the investment reflects a broader push to build a self sufficient defence industry. As a result, South Korea intends to position itself as a major player in advanced aerospace manufacturing.

    KF 21 Deployment Timeline Confirmed

Officials confirmed that the KF 21 fighter jet will be delivered to the Air Force and enter operational service in September. This milestone marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to modernise its military capabilities.

Furthermore, the deployment highlights years of development in building an indigenous fighter jet. The programme demonstrates South Korea’s ambition to enhance both defence readiness and technological expertise.

    International Cooperation And Potential Deals

Earlier this month, Korea Aerospace Industries said it was in discussions with Indonesia over possible fighter jet sales. However, no agreement has been finalised so far.

Meanwhile, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit South Korea from March 31 to April 2. The visit is expected to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Previously, Lee expressed hope that South Korea and Indonesia would continue cooperation on military security. This includes joint efforts in developing fighter jet technology and expanding defence collaboration.
