Trump Says He Will Have a Say on Netflix–Warner Bros Merger

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he intends to play a role in deciding whether the proposed $72 billion merger between Netflix and Warner Brothers should proceed, citing concerns over market dominance in the entertainment industry.

    Potential Market Power Under Scrutiny

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at the Kennedy Center’s annual awards show, Trump said, “I’ll be involved in that decision.” His remarks suggest that the administration may closely review the implications of combining two of Hollywood’s most influential media players.

On Friday, Netflix announced an agreement to acquire Warner Bros Discovery’s television, film studios and streaming division. The move would give Netflix control over a vast catalogue of content and a network of production assets that have long defined Hollywood’s creative landscape.

    Trump Notes Possible Monopoly Concerns

Although Trump did not specify whether he supported the merger, he acknowledged that such a deal could raise competition issues. “That’s going to be for some economists to tell… But it is a big market share. There’s no question it could be a problem,” he said.

His comments underline growing unease in Washington over consolidation in the entertainment and technology sectors, where a handful of companies already command significant influence over content creation and distribution.

Regulators are expected to examine the proposed acquisition closely, with particular attention to its potential effects on consumer choice and pricing in the streaming market.
