Australia Defence Space Command signs tactical satcom services contract with Fleet Space

Fleet Space Technologies, an emerging Australian player in the global New Space industry, is collaborating with Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), the University of South Australia, Rice Satcom Pty Ltd., and SmartSat CRC to launch a new program called ASCEND2LEO. This program aims to demonstrate low Earth orbit (LEO) capabilities for the warfighter by leveraging modern commercial space technology provided by commercial satellites of Fleet Space, used by the mining industry and combining it with the latest research to advance space capabilities rapidly.

Fleet Space Technologies has unique capabilities in low-power, high-performance edge computing in small spacecraft and terrestrial devices and additive manufacturing. The company claims to be in a solid position to develop and embrace cutting-edge technologies and methodologies for domestic satellite technology production, helping to complement, augment, and reinforce sovereign space capability for Australia and its allies.

In addition to expanding into the defence sector with the LEO SATCOM systems, Fleet Space is also diversifying its offerings with its ExoSphere system, which provides a cutting-edge solution for mining exploration. The ExoSphere system comprises highly portable sensors called Geodes, which use ambient noise tomography (ANT) to collect subsurface data. This data is then transmitted to the ExoSphere constellation of LEO satellites and relayed to computers that use machine learning to generate detailed 3D subsurface maps. This technology can help explorers find the resources needed to build Australia’s sovereign mineral wealth for future industries and energy security.

Fleet Space is poised to become a leader in Australia’s growing space and defence industry with a focus on developing and embracing new technologies and methodologies. By collaborating with the government, defence industry, and academia, Fleet Space is pushing the boundaries of what is possible and driving innovation in space technology.
