    JSAT-32

New JSAT-32 Satellite to Enhance Japan’s Telecommunications Network

On March 10, in Cannes, SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation, Asia’s largest satellite operator, signed a contract with Thales Alenia Space to manufacture the JSAT-32 geostationary telecommunications satellite. This new satellite will enhance communications coverage over Japan and its surrounding seas.

JSAT-32 will operate in both the Ka and Ku frequency bands, delivering improved mobility applications. It will also serve as a replacement for existing SKY Perfect JSAT satellites that currently provide communication and broadcasting services in Japan.

    Advanced Technology and Long-Term Reliability

As the prime contractor, Thales Alenia Space will handle the satellite’s design, manufacturing, testing, and delivery. The company will also provide the associated ground segment. Weighing 3.7 tons at launch, JSAT-32 will be built on the Spacebus 4000B2 platform. It is expected to launch in 2027 and has a projected lifespan of over 15 years.

Eiichi Yonekura, President and CEO of SKY Perfect JSAT, highlighted the importance of this investment:

“The acquisition of JSAT-32 is part of our strategic investment and long-term satellite renewal plan. With an additional Ka-band payload, JSAT-32 will enable us to better meet the rapidly growing demand for mobility, including national security needs. The acquisition of this satellite in the continuity of JSAT-31 allows us to benefit from the proven technology and expertise of Thales Alenia Space.”

    Strengthening a Trusted Partnership

This contract marks the second collaboration between SKY Perfect JSAT and Thales Alenia Space. The previous project, JSAT-31, was ordered in 2024.

Hervé Derrey, President and CEO of Thales Alenia Space, expressed gratitude for the renewed trust from SKY Perfect JSAT:

“JSAT-32 is the second satellite we will provide to SKY Perfect JSAT, after JSAT-31. This new contract further highlights the success of our robust and proven Spacebus 4000 product line, which to date has completed 42 satellite programs, including 16 based on the Spacebus 4000B2 platform.”

With JSAT-32, SKY Perfect JSAT aims to reinforce its satellite infrastructure, ensuring high-quality communication services for Japan well into the future.
