Qatar Airways Launches First Starlink-Equipped Boeing 777 Flight

Qatar Airways has made history by launching the world’s first Boeing 777 aircraft equipped with Starlink, a revolutionary in-flight internet service. On 22 October 2024, the flight from Doha to London marked a significant leap in air travel technology, allowing passengers to stay connected with high-speed, low-latency internet at 35,000 feet.

Starlink Internet: A Game-Changer for Passengers

Passengers on Qatar Airways can now enjoy seamless, ultra-fast internet from gate to gate, free of charge. Whether streaming shows, watching live sports, gaming online, or working during their journey, the new Starlink service offers uninterrupted connectivity. Developed by SpaceX, Starlink uses a low Earth orbit satellite system, ensuring reliable internet access, even over oceans or remote areas previously unreachable by traditional services.

Qatar Airways: Leading the Future of In-Flight Connectivity

As the world’s best airline, according to the 2024 Skytrax rankings, Qatar Airways is committed to enhancing the passenger experience. The airline plans to install Starlink across its entire Boeing 777 fleet by 2025, a full year ahead of schedule. The Airbus A350 fleet is also expected to be Starlink-equipped by the summer of 2025. By the end of 2024, 12 Boeing 777-300s will feature this cutting-edge technology.

Qatar Airways’ CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, expressed the airline’s dedication to providing unmatched in-flight connectivity: “We are proud to lead the aviation industry with the launch of Starlink on our flights. This milestone sets a new standard in air travel, allowing passengers to stay connected to what matters most, even at 35,000 feet.”

    Industry Firsts and Global Impact

This achievement establishes several key firsts for Qatar Airways, including:

    • The world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing Widebody 777.
    • The first passenger aircraft in the MENA region to offer Starlink connectivity.
    • The largest and longest-range aircraft with Starlink capability.

This partnership with SpaceX ensures passengers can enjoy world-class connectivity on select routes as the airline accelerates its Starlink roll-out.
